Facebook is testing a virtual assistant M similar to Apple Siri, Google now, and Microsoft’s Cortana. It has been announced by David Marcus Facebook’s VP of messaging products its official page. It is being tested on 100 Facebook messenger app users in the Bay Area and it will be rolled out for all messenger users around the globe. The new virtual assistant uses artificial intelligence and will be assisted by real people to complete the request of users fast. But, Google, Apple and Microsoft are using only technology in providing the service to users automatically.
With this service, Facebook is looking to take on rivals by providing better features in M that enables users to perform works without any problems. M suggests book reservation, send gifts to a spouse and even suggest weekend gateways for users. In fact, the virtual assistant would determine all your intent and provide numerous suggestions for its completion. It would be a great platform for messenger user to buy essential products or service through this service faster and effectively.
How M Works?
To use this new service, users have to tap a button located at the bottom of the messenger app to send a note to M like sending a message. The software M will decode the natural language and ask to follow up questions to send updates as the task is completed. But, users won’t know who helps them, unlike Siri or Cortana. Service is highly sophisticated and would figure out of its own. Further, a special team of M trainers would assist to complete the transaction quickly and it would be increased gradually with time. Further, Facebook is planning to use data generated by the service to feed a complex AI system in order to reduce the burden on trainers.
It is indeed good news for the companies targeting this platform for revenue generation. M would bring numerous opportunities for the businesses to generate revenues providing direct and efficient service over messenger. And Facebook is already helping firms to offer customer service through messenger like send receipts, notify customer’s package shipment, and other basic services. But services would gradually increase in the platform with a passage of time when it would reach to everyone on the internet.
M is still in its testing stage and it would be interesting to see its result. Let us just wait and see how it fares in the market. Tell us your opinion about this new virtual assistant with a comment below.
