Last year, several Google employees have announced that mobile search may overtake desktop sometime this year. And Google has confirmed that finally, mobile searches surpassed desktop. It is good news for the marketers targeting mobile devices in recent years.
In fact, this news may not surprise marketers as Google has been asking users to create a more mobile-friendly website to get benefits from fast-growing mobile users. The report also states that it happened only in 10 countries including the US and Japan, not worldwide. But, the company didn’t elaborate about the countries or about users in those countries. It also declined to share the volume of PC and mobile queries are now in other countries. The company didn’t break down relative search shares coming from mobile browsers and those coming from Google mobile search apps. Apart from that Google considers a tablet with desktops and this result is just about smartphones excluding tablets.
But, ComScore previous report and graphic showed a different story about total relative volume of US-based search on PCs, tablets and smartphones. It has reported a mere 29 per cent of mobile search queries (tablets and smartphones) in Q4 of 2014 across the entire industry. It means either ComScore data were incorrect or mobile searches are growing faster than anticipated by anyone. When Google asked about comScore data, the company declined to provide comment on this.
Google has offered this information while releasing a range of new AdWords and Google Display Network tools in the official blog. In the announcement, new ad formats, new automation tools in both search and display ads, new measurement capabilities, store visits and offline measurement were released for advertisers.
With this revelation, Google has just put more emphasis on creating mobile-friendly website for better performance of marketers. The recent mobile friendly algorithm update is bringing more colors for the marketer. It is sure that in near future mobile searches will surpass desktop queries across the google. It is a high time for marketers to create mobile-friendly websites as it has extended to search marketing now.
