Google released ‘Pirate Update” two years back in August 2012 to penalize websites violating copyright laws. Since then, there were no updates to stop increasing defaulter in a search engine on this regard. Finally, it has refreshed the pirate update to catch the defaulter deemed violating the copyright laws. It is good news for penalized website waiting for Google to update and provide better ranking in search engines. In this update, numerous torrent sites were hit and observing a sharp decline in their traffic. So, Google has finally come out with more vigorous laws to prevent piracy after much neglect and criticism.
What is a pirate update?
The Pirate Update- similar to other Google’s updates like Panda or Penguin works like a filter. If any website is caught to be violating the copyright laws is penalized and receives a quick downgrade of ranking and traffic. The affected website has to wait for the next update after cleaning up the site deemed pirated from others.
According to a report of SearchMetric, there has been a 68% drop in traffic in the European torrent sites. The update was launched much earlier than thought and may be continuing till now. It will be interesting to see how many more websites are hit in this update. Well, we will discuss this in the coming update.
