Google has announced that it will add AMP pages in its search engines from February 2016. Accelerated mobile pages (AMP) is a Google-backed project started before to help in increasing page speed. It will be useful to increase the page speed of search and likely to provide a boost in ranking over time.
Google has shared this news in its official blog post along with an announcement of other developments of the company. Apart from it, it has conducted a special press conference in San Francisco recently for this announcement. In the event, two important tidbits come as AMP pages would get more favours in ranking higher in a search result and would be label as fast designation similarly to Google’s mobile-friendly pages. Both the tidbits are just speculation with no confirmation from Google.
Mobile page speed is considered an important ranking factor in Google. Publishers having AMP pages get more priority in the search result as AMP increases load time and page speed of the site. Though, Google didn’t confirm this directly but reiterated the importance of page speed in a ranking of the website in search result. Over time, AMP is likely to be the most important way of improving page load time.
Google is likely to label AMP pages as “fast” as it was confirmed after being asked by people if AMP pages would receive designation as mobile-friendly pages. This is because labelling as “fast” looks more intuitive for the consumers in the web.
The company further said getting AMP page is not the only way to increase the speed of mobile pages. It is still being tested with integration in a user interface and observing the experience of users. To find out that, Google is running a test site to see how AMP pages appear. The site may appear different after integrating AMP into regular Google search.
