We are constantly hearing from Matt Cutt to give more weigh on the quality content to improve the ranking in the search engine. Google is giving more importance to the good author producing content for visitors on the web. A good author delivers content containing relevant and useful information about the audience. An author can enjoy a benefit of higher authorship and a tag of the trusted author only after setting of Google authorship. Otherwise, the good and audience based contents will go in vain without getting many admirers. This is because people like to go for the contents of a writer having good ranking in the Google author ranking. It is helpful in acquiring the trust and credibility of the visitor on the website.
Even the companies looking to establish an authoritative voice or be a leader in the industry have to set up Google Authorship. So, the resulting content will have the author name, author’s headshot, and content snippet. We have seen the importance of Google authorship in the last penguin update.
How to get started?
To set the authorship, you first need a Google+ profile and publisher requires setting up a company page. A company is required to get the benefit of the post in the Google+ by increasing the visibility and authority of the content.
A profile should be filled properly and a good headshot should be used as a profile picture because this will appear in the snippet. Add the link of the sites in which you are posting the content after completion of the form. Put a label in the top editing box, description and name of the site with URL of the site. Put the URL in the site if you have dedicated author page.
Do this in every site where you are posting the content but it does not add the author markup and will appear in the snippets. The name in the G+, articles and blogs should be same which you use during the publishing of contents. It will bring relevant posts in the author stats without adding the picture and relevant snippet information in search results.
After following the above steps, you should sign up for Authorship. There is two way on the verification of the Google authorship.
With email address or domain, you’re writing for
This is easy and simple to do. Ask the site owner if they are willing to set you up with an email address in their domain. Then, add the email address in the G+ account in the work section of the “About” section and can do it in the page of Authorship signup.
Rel=Author Tag Adding
It requires a domain to do this process and a little difficult than the previous one. It can be used in your author bios for the sites where you do guest blogging or a regular contributor. You can create a link in the bio of the G+ profile with the content created by you.
<a target=”_blank” href=”[profile_url]?rel=author”>Google</a>
Replace the [profile_url] with your G+ profile URL: <a target=”_blank” hrref=”https://plus.google.com/u/0/109822713436643034257?rel=author”>Google</a>
To verify the content written by you in various sites, just add a link on the G+ profile in the contributors’ section. You can link to the bio of the content in the same manner as the G+ profile discussed above.
Author of the different contents will recognize as long as the byline exists in the same page in the various sites. But it can’t be verified and headshot and link of the other contents won’t appear in the snippets.
Checking for verification
You can check to verify the author recognition by using the structural data tool from Google. This can be done by collecting the URLs for checking and entering them at a time in the URL box. To get the verification hit on the preview button of the page. Ask the site owner to add the re=author tag and to add you to the domain with the email address.
Author Stats is a useful webmaster tool to track the content without verification. It will help you to know the performance of the different content on the website. Even the content written by you in the past will be verified by the byline without markup and email address. However, it is always recommended to use the proper discussed above for better result.
The Rel=Publisher Tag
This is not as powerful as the authorship now, but still, help in the branding of the company’s logo as it appears at the side of the contents. Scroll down to the bottom while making a business page unless you see a more button. Another pages button will appear and choose this with a business category and fill the necessary blanks. Use the business page URL instead of the G+ profile URL to make note of it.
Add the rel=publisher tag to the home page of your website:
<link rel=publisher href=”https://plus.google.com/202020202020202020202″>
Remember to use the code in the head section of the home page or in between the head tags. Add a +1 button to the website along with your business page ID linked to it.
There are many WordPress plugins which can make the process easier. Edit the business page and add the URL to the homepage before saving it. Verify the website with Google using the webmaster tool if not done during the advertising or analytics. This is a process required in setting the Google authorship and enjoys much authority of your contents on the internet.
