Yandex is the largest search engine with 60% of market share in Russia and fourth worldwide.
Yandex released a new updated version of thematic index citations in Russian. It has announced that the updated version contains calculation and metrics of TIC. Originally, the blog was posted in Russian but later translated by Yandex in English using Google Translator. In the translated post-Yandex wrote, it has made serious changes in the algorithm with clean reference signal mechanism and exclusion of outdated features.
Yandex’s thematic Index Citation is similar to PageRank of Google. Here is how Yandex described TIC in the official blog post:
“Thematic Citation Index (TIC) determines the “credibility” of internet resources based on a qualitative assessment of links to other sites. The greater the quality the more “weight” the link is said to have. This indicator is calculated by a specially developed algorithm. The similarity in content between the source and the site to which it links plays an important part in this equation. The number of links to a specific site also influences the TIC value, but the TIC is not ultimately defined by the number of links, but the total of their weights”.
A Russian search tips blog stated, TIC is similar to Google’s PageRank but TIC still get regular updates and determines website authority, unlike PageRank. A few months ago, Google killed Toolbar PageRank but Yandex is still using this to show quality score to their webmaster.
Russian webmasters have got new changed scores yesterday and changes were made in TIC calculation formula in inbound link-based signals in the latest Yandex search algorithm.
